Course Overview
You can know exactly where to place acupuncture needles, and why. Learn to detect, with your hands, the exact location of Channel Qi aberrations - the root of all mental and physical illness. Then discover specific styles of needle insertion that directly restore correct Channel flow at the point of the aberration – as opposed to hit-or-miss, hope-for-the-best treatments. Channel Qi aberrations, classically referred to as “Channel Qi Doesn’t Go Through,” are the energetic drivers behind all health problems. Channel Qi blockages occur in highly specific, individualized locations – and you can detect these with your hands. These blockages force the Channel Qi into aberrant patterns, which then lead to compromised health. Stubborn physical or emotional blockages are only rarely diminished by distal-point or “indicated point” treatments. But when you breach these Channel Qi obstructions by strategic needling in the exact vicinity of the blockage, instantaneous healing often ensues. You already have an innate ability to detect Channel Qi. Develop it. Please note: It is highly recommended you complete at least one of these prerequisite items prior to completing this course: Watch a 1-hour recording of Janice's Advanced Channel Theory presentation and/or read the first 4 chapters of Tracking the Dragon, by Janice Walton-Hadlock. Registrants of this course should also try feeling Channel Qi prior to the course so that they have a sense of their ability.Course Objectives
- Learn to differentiate, using hand-detection, when Channel Qi is running correctly, backwards, or stopping.
- Learn needle insertion techniques that directly rectify Channel Qi aberrations.
- Learn to differentiate between the normal and healthy patterns of Channel Qi flow when a person is in parasympathetic, sympathetic, sleep, or dissociated (shock) mode.
- Anyone can learn to detect channel Qi, but it requires practice to understand what one is feeling. The demonstrations in this class will be directed at increasing confidence in recognizing the Channel Qi sensations experienced by the hands, and learning what the different sensations signify.
- To come away with a clear sense of how to feel Channel Qi and how to develop and test a treatment plan based on the aberrations in Channel Qi; learning confidence in one's ability to assess is also a key goal in this course, and this is best achieved through practicing.
Course Outline
0 hrs - 1 hrsThe physics of Channel Qi: jing-luo, bosuns, and waves.
1 hrs - 3 hrsDiscussion of the mechanics of feeling Channel Qi as pertains to Stomach and Ren channels and recorded demo of moving the palm of the hand back and forth along the traditionally described path of the Stomach channel; recorded Q&A with instructor, and observe recordings of students practicing on other students in relation to detecting Qi or what was experienced.
3 hrs - 5 hrsCommon diversions of the Stomach channel and Sympathetic mode divergences at ST-13 and Ren-12; discussion of sympathetic mode changes and how they are detected with recorded demo of how to feel Channel Qi by moving hand back and forth and noticing differences; Discussion of how to NOT influence the patient’s Channel Qi while working at detection.
5 hrs - 6 hrsObserve recordings of student volunteers and a discussion of case studies involving Stomach Channel aberrations.
6 hrs - 7 hrsReview of main concepts covered in recording so far and recorded demo/review on feeling channel Qi in the Stomach channel, with renewed emphasis on not influencing the patient’s Channel Qi.
7 hrs - 8 hrsSleep-and Dissociation-mode divergences of the Stomach channel; Discussion and demo on inducing dissociation mode changes in each other and detecting the Channel Qi changes and recognizing sympathetic- and dissociation- mode patterns in patients — case studies.
8 hrs - 9 hrsTreatment considerations: Needling blocked channels, energetic work on the patient’s part for unblocking channels, and herbs for blocked channels.
9 hrs - 10 hrsChannel blockages formed by scar tissue and unresolved injuries: Channel Qi following the path of least resistance; Directional assessment of Channel Qi; Needle-direction theory for redirecting Channel Qi.
10 hrs - 11 hrsObserve recorded students feeling Channel Qi, with instructor pointing out points/concepts, etc. to take note of: Aberrations in students with scar tissue or unresolved injury; Feeling Channel Qi on healthy students.
11 hrs - 12 hrsCase studies and observe recorded students practicing, with instructor's commentary on points to consider: Needling on students with scar tissue — feeling the students’ aberrant Channel Qi prior to needling; practice feeling the changes that occur in the Channel Qi after needling; Patients’ assessment of changes that occurred in response to the needling. Recorded Q&A.

Course Overview
“First inspect the channels, separating and following...then adjust them accordingly” – Su Wen In this Level Two class, you will fine-tune the skills you learned in Level One, where you learned to follow the Channel Qi: Here you will learn to separate them, distinguishing between the various types of channel Qi. Liver channel Qi gives off a very different signal than Spleen channel Qi. Kidney Channel Qi feels different from the Liver or the Spleen. Once you have even a mild sense for “following” the Channel Qi, you can quickly learn to tell the channels apart! You'll learn to trust yourself when you feel unusual channel behaviors – such as Du Channel Qi responding to a blockage by floating up out of the body and into thin air – and understand why the patient with this pattern has profound deficiency symptoms that don’t respond to the usual tonics or stimulation. Please note that Detecting Channel Qi Aberrations - Course 1, Level 1 is a prerequisite to this course.Course Objectives
- Differentiate between the sensations given off by the various channels, particularly the three Yin Leg channels.
- Learn how to coach patients in the use of acupuncture and/or Qi Gong to rectify channel attacking patterns in the three Yin Leg channels.
- Learn to recognize patterns where a blockage on one side of the body (left/right) causes stimulation or trauma occurring on one side of the body and manifests as pain on the opposite side, sometimes in an “illogical” location.
- Tangibly experience Du or Ren channel Qi aberrations in which channel Qi exits the body in response to a channel blockage, and learn how to treat them with acupuncture and/or Qi Gong.
Course Outline
0 hrs - 30 minReview of how to feel the channel Qi of the Stomach and Ren channels. This is a review of the material in the Level One class. Demonstration and recorded group work with instructor's guidance on how to notice the relative strength or weakness of Channel Qi flow, and the direction of channel Qi flow. Non-parasympathetic mode patterns and channel Qi blockages will be highlighted in instructor's demonstration.
30 min - 1 hrsNext, recorded demonstrations of channel Qi in Du channels. Recorded discussion on blockages and other variations.
1 hrs - 2 hrsDiscovery: After noting Channel Qi aberrations in provided demonstrations, recorded discussion on the most blatant and/or curious irregularities. Demonstrations with instructor's commentary on the most compelling of the discovered irregularities.
2 hrs - 3 hrsDiagnosis and Treatment Plans: Discussion of treatment plans for restoring correct flow of Channel Qi in the recorded patients with the most interesting variations and aberrations. Demonstrations of checking patients’ tongues and pulses to see if/how they conform with the behavior of their Channel Qi is examined.
3 hrs - 5 hrsTreatment: Attendees will watch demonstrations of executing treatment plans and commentary from the instructor on how changes detected in on-screen volunteer's Channel Qi before and after treatment occur and what to look for. Students continue to watch demonstrations of detecting the changes that occur in on-screen patients' Channel Qi after treatment. It will be discussed how developing the habit of confirming whether or not a treatment is working by taking note of the changes/improvements in the flow of Channel Qi is a crucial step towards becoming a brilliant acupuncturist.
5 hrs - 7 hrsDifferentiating between the channels: Reviewing the healthy locations of the Liver, Spleen, and Kidney channels, the depth of these channels. The locations of these channels do not lie in the locations usually ascribed by the modern texts of Chinese medicine. By the end of the course, attendees will understand the actual locations of these channels.
7 hrs - 9 hrsDemonstration: Learning how to differentiate between the three different types of electromagnetic signals given off by the Liver, Spleen, and Kidney channels. This is often the most exciting time of the entire course. During this part of the class, most viewers, often still doubting what they have learned, suddenly realize that the signals given off by the Channel Qi in these three channels are each different. This is the point where students realize that not only are they feeling or know where Channel Qi is, but also that the ancient references to the channels refer to a palpable, knowable (and often incorrectly described) schematics that regulates all body functions.
9 hrs - 10 hrsTreatments: Based on aberrant findings during the earlier segments in the course with the Liver, Spleen and Kidney channels, viewers watch recorded treatments. Demonstrations on how to feel the Channel Qi in these subjects are given, and tongue and pulse analysis by the instructor are provided.
10 hrs - 11 hrsTreatments. Frequent detection of the changes in Channel Qi during and after treatment are provided.
11 hrs - 12 hrsRecorded discussion, Q and A; case histories, and demonstrations.

Dr. Walton-Hadlock makes good, skeptic-proof explanations of why meridian theory makes sense, and why feeling the qi, in the meridians, and not just the pulses, will guide us in making more directed treatments that can be more effective.Tobi P.Canada
I loved this course. I was skeptical at first as to how we can learn to feel channel qi through an online course. The instructor explained it in a very accessible way that could be easily applied even though we weren't physically in the class. She also inspired a lot of confidence by continuously stating that we all had the ability to do it, and we just needed to develop it.Salma A.Canada
Dr. Janice Walton-Hadlock has made discoveries that are yet to be fully appreciated and recognized in the fields of both oriental medicine and medicine of the west. Diversion of channels is so fundamental to the development of the disease.Natalia K.United States
Janice continues to rock my world and change how I perceive and approach treatments. All therapists could benefit from her approaches and knowledge. I can't wait until she brings a new course!Shenan J.Canada
