Treating Knee Injury and Pain
by Whitfield Reaves
Sometimes local & adjacent points are just not precise enough for good clinical results with the knee pain patient. In this course you will learn five different protocols for knee pain and dysfunction, each with differing but precise point selection.
Treating Knee Injury and Pain
Course Overview
Treating Knee Injuries and Pain is designed for the orthopedic and sports acupuncturist. This course emphasizes diagnosis and assessment, with all treatment plans and choice of points based upon anatomical factors. Included are trigger points, motor points, and treating the synovial joint itself. Easy-to-understand treatment plans are presented, resulting in increased clinical effectiveness. The following structures are covered in this three-hour course:
(1) The patello-femoral joint. Highlights: Xiyan into the sub patellar space.
(2) The medial compartment of the knee. Highlights: Threading the joint line.
(3) The ilio-tibial band. Highlights: Threading the ilio-tibial tract at GB 33.
(4) The pes anserine. Highlights: The region of Spleen 9.
(5) The patellar tendon. Highlights: threading the tendon and Xiyan
Whitfield has given instruction on treating the knee in many of his live seminars and online webinars. This course, while it has been taught before, has some new material and additional protocols to consider in this common clinical condition.
Course Objectives
- Assessment and treatment of the anterior compartment of the knee.
- Assessment and treatment of the medial compartment of the knee.
- Assessment and treatment of the ilio-tibial band.
- Assessment and treatment of the pes anserine.
- Assessment and treatment of the patellar tendon.
Course Outline
0 hrs - 30 minPresentation of the anatomy and function of the patello-femoral joint. Explanation of orthopedic testing and assessment sites for the anterior compartment of the knee. Review of the acupuncture points located locally and adjacent to the knee joint.
30 min - 1 hrsPresentation of the anatomy and function of the medial compartment of the knee. Explanation of orthopedic testing and assessment sites for the medial compartment of the knee. Review of the acupuncture points located locally and adjacent to the knee.
1 hrs - 1.5 hrsPresentation of the anatomy of the ilio-tibial band. Explanation of orthopedic testing and assessment sites from the ilium to the lateral knee. Review of the acupuncture points located locally at the knee, in the IT band itself, and at its origin.
1.5 hrs - 2 hrsPresentation of the anatomy and function of the pes anserine of the knee. Explanation of orthopedic testing and assessment sites for the pes. Review of the acupuncture points located locally and adjacent to the pes anserine.
2 hrs - 2.25 hrsPresentation of the anatomy and function of the patellar tendon. Explanation of orthopedic testing and assessment sites for this tendon of the knee. Review of the acupuncture points located locally and adjacent to the anterior knee joint.
2.25 hrs - 2.75 hrsVideo presentation of the anatomy, location of meridians, and point location for all the knee structures covered in this three hour event. Further elaboration of the tissues deep to the surface anatomy at the acupuncture points.
2.75 hrs - 3 hrsReview and questions. Review of the anterior knee, the patellar tendon, the medial compartment, and the pes anserine. Case studies will be included if the attendees do not have questions.
